System Down

I should also note, with the stream system down, no pure decking tonight.

So, what happened to the server? My UPS (an old one) failed hard. The power supply on the box went out and took the system hard disk with it. We do maintain a off site backup, so we haven’t actually lost anything other than the box that ran the stream and we recorded the shows on. We’ve decided to take this as an opportunity to re-design how we manage our streams, servers, and systems. In short, we’re going to fix everything. Morpse is close to getting the new broadcast system ready to go, and we’re gaining a lot of flexibility with the new system. Never let a crisis go to waste as the saying goes.  Once we get the basics going again, we’re going to begin moving some services over to the new system, the stream hosting and finally the web site. When we move the site there will be a few minor changes, mainly instead of moving all the old show posts we’re going to build archives and post those instead of the individual files.
